How to give your digital marketing agency access to your Google Tag Manager Account

At FizzyPop, accurate tracking underpins everything we do. From campaign performance and conversion tracking through to ongoing optimisation, reliable data allows us to make informed decisions rather than assumptions.

Google Tag Manager plays a key role in this. It controls how tracking tools are loaded on your website and ensures platforms like Google Analytics are firing correctly. Having the right container in place, and access to manage it, allows us to maintain clean, consistent tracking as your site and marketing evolve.

When we start working together, we need access to your Google Tag Manager (GTM) account, and we need to confirm that the correct container is installed on your website.

This quick guide walks you through both steps, in the right order:

  • Check that Google Tag Manager is installed on your website
  • Add FizzyPop as a user in Google Tag Manager

Step 1: Check that Google Tag Manager is installed on your website

Before adding us to Google Tag Manager, it’s important to confirm that the GTM container is live on your website.

You can check this by doing one of two options:

Option 1: Check the page source

  1. Open your website in a browser
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page
  3. Select View Page Source or Inspect Element
  4. Press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac)
  5. Search for “GTM-“ You should see a string of code that looks like this: GTM-XXXXXXX If you can see this, it means that you have a GTM container installed on your website.

Option 2: Use Google Tag Assistant

Google’s Tag Assistant browser extension makes this easier and avoids digging through code.

  • Install the Google Tag Assistant browser extension
  • Open your website
  • Enable the extension and refresh the page

It will show whether Google Tag Manager is detected and what your GTM container is.

If no GTM container is found, let us know. We can help diagnose what’s missing or create a new Google Tag Manager account for you.

Step 2: Adding your agency to Google Tag Manager

Once you have confirmed that GTM is installed, you can now add us as a user.

  1. Log in to Google Tag Manager
    • Go to Google Tag Manager and open the correct account and container.
  2. Open User Management
    • Click Admin in the top navigation
    • Under Account, select User Management
  3. Add a new user
    • Click the + button
    • Select Add users
    • Enter the email address we have provided
  4. Set permissions:
    • Account permissions: View
    • Container permissions: Edit
  5. Save
    • Click Invite or Save to finish

Next Steps

Once GTM access is confirmed and the correct container and G-ID are in place, we can:

      • Review your current tracking setup
      • Check tags are firing correctly
      • Make any required improvements or fixes

If you’re unsure which account, container, or tag is the right one, just let us know.
